PADRE BARERA
VERCURAGO: estate 2002
Sarei contenta di arrivare al Santuario di San Girolamo Emiliani di Vergurago:
anche mio marito è felice di uscire dalla solita routine per cui, appago
la mia curiosità di comunicazione con i luoghi somaschi. Il Santuario
di San Girolamo è un luogo di pellegrinaggio cinquecentenario,
è Sede della "congregazione dei chierici regolari" di Somasca e luogo di vita
e opere di San Girolamo Emiliani, fondatore dell'ordine, che è arricchita,
nel 1544, ampliando la precedente Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, erigendo
il Santuario. Il complesso verrà modificato nei secoli Seicento e Settecento.
Dal Santuario, parte la “Via delle Cappelle”: qui, troviamo la strada a lato
delle cappelle che, ben volentieri, percorriamo attraverso l'acciottolato
e una lunga fila di alberi dove, a metà, inizia la Scala Santa scavata
nella roccia che conduce all’eremo del Santo dove pregava. Passata
la cappella di San Girolamo, una chiesetta è vicinissima alla parete rocciosa:
qui, si beve alla fonte del Santo. Il panorama dà sensazione armoniosa.
Da qui, in circa dieci minuti, si può raggiungere il Castello dell’Innominato,
il personaggio de "I Promessi Sposi": personaggio che Lucia ha "addomesticato".
Padre Barera mi viene indicato dal mio compagno di Corso di Turismo Religioso:
è originario di Casorezzo, nella provincia di Milano. Non è altezzoso,
Padre Barera. E' un uomo umile che, dopo essere diventato sacerdote, opera
a Como, Treviso, Milano, Legnano, Mestre e, nel 1977, arriva a Somasca che venera
il Santo. Padre Barera diventa un grande punto di riferimento per ricevere conforto
e dove diventa noto come esorcista combattendo il male in modo discreto, accorto.
Conoscendolo, mi sembra burbero, ma il suo cuore è grande e si comporta
con grande fede per tutta la sua esistenza; fede che lo trasporta
fino a quasi novant'anni in cui, a causa delle problematica salute,
si ritira: la sua preghiera la recita sempre, ricordando anche le cose accadute.
A Padre Barera io dono due miniature di legno pirografato da me: è un omaggio
ad un uomo meritevole di stima e ammirazione: un grande personaggio.

I would be happy to get to the Sanctuary of San Girolamo Emiliani in Vergurago:
my husband is also happy to get out of the usual routine so I am satisfied
my curiosity about communicating with Somaschi places. The Sanctuary
of San Girolamo is a five-hundred-year-old pilgrimage site,
it is the seat of the "congregation of regular clerics" of Somasca and place of life
and works by San Girolamo Emiliani, founder of the order, which is enriched,
in 1544, expanding the previous Church of San Bartolomeo, erecting
the Sanctuary. The complex will be modified in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
From the Sanctuary, the "Via delle Cappelle" starts: here, we find the road to the side
of the chapels that we gladly walk along the cobblestones
and a long line of trees where, in the middle, the Scala Santa excavated in the rock
begins that leads to the hermitage of the saint where he prayed. Passed
the chapel of San Girolamo, a small church is very close to the rock face:
here, you drink at the source of the Saint. The panorama gives harmonious feeling.
From here, in about ten minutes, you can reach the Castello dell'Innominato,
the character of "The Betrothed": a character that Lucia has "tamed".
Father Barera was indicated to me by my classmate in the Religious Tourism Course:
he is originally from Casorezzo, in the province of Milan. He's not haughty,
he
Father Barera. He is a humble man who, after becoming a priest, works
in Como, Treviso, Milan, Legnano, Mestre and, in 1977, he arrives in Somasca which venerates
the Saint. Father Barera becomes a great point of reference for receiving comfort
and where he becomes known as an exorcist by fighting evil in a discreet, shrewd way.
Knowing him, he seems gruff to me, but his heart is big and he behaves
with great faith throughout its existence; faith that carries it
up to almost ninety years in which, due to health problems,
he withdraws: he always recites his prayer, also remembering the things that have happened.
I am giving Father Barera two wooden miniatures pyrographed by me: it is a tribute
to a man deserving of esteem and admiration: a great character.
